    Mad Science

    Ready, STEM, Go! (K-5th Gr.) In this program, children learn foundational science and find out how STEM is at work in the world around them! They learn about the animal kingdom, both on land and under the sea. They make mixtures and explore the science of motion and energy. They also discover the technology that powers our modern world. This after-school program is available at North Creek for K-2 grades and South Meadows for grades 3-5. Participants must be picked up promptly at the end of class. NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers (ages 5-12) Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for exploration! We’ll take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena in our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sun and other stars and discover the difficulties of space travel! Kids will get a firsthand experience of the challenges of living in space as they try to assemble a satellite while training to be an astronaut. For added fun, we’ll learn about the various technologies that make space exploration possible while bouncing lasers around the room! Kids will love to build their own Mad Science Skyblazer Rocket and participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch. Campers will receive many cool NASA take homes! Campers should bring their own water and a nut-free snack to class. Secret Agent Lab (ages 5-12) The following camp description is TOP SECRET: Ever dream of becoming a secret agent? We'll start with the basics: from decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take-home lots of gadgets! Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis! Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes! Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on investigation of the science that spies use! Campers should bring their own water and a nut-free snack to class. Underground Explorers (ages 7-12) Calling all junior archaeologists and paleontologists! Uncover the mysteries of ancient civilizations, explore the history of dinosaurs, and div up the ancient past! Earn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long-lost cities. Discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they used in everyday life. Kids will love to study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits and fossils! Camp is filled with cool take-homes such as amber keychains, world coins, plaster hand casts and more! Campers should bring their own water and a nut-free snack to class. Brixology (ages 7-12) Brixology Camp sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Children learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO bricks. We’ll learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. We’ll explore mechanical engineering as we build boats and vehicles. That’s not all! From carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills. Let the tinkering begin! Campers receive custom Mad Science take homes. Campers should bring their own water and a nut-free snack to class.

    Mudpuppy

    Mudpuppy: This class is for those children who have completed the Polliwog class or have had previous swim experience and are comfortable in the water without a parent. The focus of the Mudpuppy class is on basic skills as well as gaining more strength and confidence in the water. During the first lesson, children will be tested and placed in the group that matches their skill level.

    Paint Like Bob Ross

    Join certified Bob Ross instructor, Brenda Fineman, as she walks you through a Bob Ross inspired oil painting in just a few hours. In each of these classes we will paint a beautiful classic landscape using oil paints. Whether you’ve painted for years or want to check it out for the first time, this is a great way to start! Brenda provides all the materials you will need (canvas, oil paints, brushes, etc.) and will be covered in the cost of the registration. All you need to bring is your desire to have fun and create beautiful art!

  • Polliwog (Parent Tot)

    Polliwog (Parent/Tot): This will be the first class for ages 1 – 4. Parents will work one-on-one with their child encouraging them to become comfortable in the water through songs and skills. Children in diapers must wear swim diapers.
  • Puppy & Dog Training Fundamentals 1

    This class is open to puppies 10 weeks of age thru adult dogs. Using reward-based training, you will learn basic skills such as Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Go To Your Mat, Leave It and More! Discussions on jumping up, chewing, over excitement and more will also be discussed in class. Dogs with fear or aggression issues are not appropriate for group classes. This class will be limited to 7 students to maximize attention and interaction with the instructor. There will be off-leash playtime for Puppies 10-16 weeks of age at the end of each class. Once registered for class, students will also complete the intake process through the K9HomeSchooling.com website. Participants must watch the required orientation video prior to the first class, which will be sent to your registration email. In addition to class materials, all K9 Home Schooling Students have access to Michelle’s on-line library of training videos (110+) to support your training outside of class for 90 days after the start of their class. Participants must have a collar and 6-foot leash each class. You will be asked to verify your vaccinations during registration. Students must be 18 years of age to handle their dog in class and children under 12 years of age must remain at home.   • Safety Town

    Safety Town is a safety education program that teaches various areas of personal safety to children starting Young 5s or kindergarten in the fall. Children will learn traffic and bus safety as well as fire, seat belt, stranger, water, gun, poison and electrical safety. Your child will learn about these important topics from special visitors, stories, projects, songs, games, movies and taking a bus ride. A ‘mock city’ equipped with cars (tricycles), street signs and real traffic lights help make learning fun.
  • Schoolage Sports

    Check out this awesome Coach Jeremy program! We will dive into the finer points of sport in a smaller clinic-based format. Participants will learn specific skills that apply to the given sport and will grow both their skill and confidence in the game! The best part of learning with Coach Jeremy? Tons of fun in a low-stress environment!

    Sports

    Chelsea Community Education provides all youth and adult recreation activities to the residents of the Chelsea School District, including the City of Chelsea, as well as outlying areas outside District boundaries. Our major team sport seasons include baseball/softball/tee ball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Additional camps and clinics are offered throughout the year. We also offer adult men's basketball, co-ed indoor volleyball co-ed pickleball, and co-ed softball. If you would like to discuss other sports opportunities, we would love to hear from you!
  • Sports Exploration

    Coach Jeremy will be continuing to offer this exciting sports experience for those boys and girls who are ages 5 and 6. Sports Exploration will have a focus on learning many of those fundamental skills needed before players move into a structured team environment. What is the best part about learning the basics with Coach Jeremy? Children will learn in a low stress, fun environment! A parent should plan to attend each class with their child.
  • Super Saturday

    Chelsea Community Education's 4-week Super Saturday program offers children Pre-K through 6th grade an opportunity to explore new interests and activities without a big time or money commitment. Classes run from February 24 - March 16, 2024 on Saturdays, and meet during the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Children may participate in one, two or three classes. Super Saturday classes should not be a child's first classroom experience. Parents and siblings not registered for a class may wait in the cafeteria while their child is attending an activity.
  • Swim Punch Card

    Purchase a swim punch card for the Charles Cameron Pool. Punch cards cost $50 and have 20 punches. Punches can be used for lap and open swims by any member of the immediate family. Seniors can contact the Community Education office to purchase their punch card for $40.

  • Tot Sports

    Coach Jeremy and Community Education are pleased to present Tot Sports! Tot Sports features fun and engaging activities that will encourage skills to be used in a variety of sports. Each four-week session will show the participants some of the basic techniques, like dribbling a ball or throwing and catching, and help produce a life-long love of sports and recreation in a fun-based, play-centric atmosphere. Parents will learn with their child so that they can work together outside of class as well. A parent must attend each class with their child.

    Turtle: This class is to teach stroke development. Children must pass Mudpuppy, be 5 years or older and be able to float and swim on their own.
  • Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

    New for the summer of 2024, Chelsea’s very first ultimate frisbee tournament! Ultimate frisbee is a non-contact, self-officiated disc sport played by two teams on an open field with the object of scoring goals. The game is fun and fast-paced, with lots of action back and forth for the players. We will be hosting both Youth (15 & under, co-ed) and Open (all ages, co-ed) divisions for this tournament. Each team will have at least 2 games guaranteed in pool play, which will be followed by the elimination rounds. Team captains will register teams by June 21. Final rosters of between seven and twelve players must be submitted before play starts on Saturday, July 13. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second, and third place teams in each division and all players will receive a tournament t-shirt. The first ever ultimate frisbee tournament will be held at Timbertown as part of the year-long project to “Reimagine Timbertown”. The play structure, now over 25 years old, is in need of some serious TLC. Check out timbertownchelsea.org, for more information about the project this summer!
  • W.R.A.P. Camp

    WRAP Camp is designed to help children develop a lifetime interest in and an appreciation for the natural world. It is educational, hands-on and fun! This program is a Chelsea School District Day Camp at the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center in the Waterloo Recreation Area. Each summer students from Chelsea and surrounding communities gather for the adventure of discovering nature first-hand. WRAP Camp campers are stimulated and challenged with outdoor programs and creative fun. Students learn about nature through interactive games, hands-on activities, and exciting presentations. Daily activities for all grades focus on nature and ecology experiences. WRAP Camp instructors are certified teachers and advanced students or recent graduates in elementary education. Children need to bring their own lunch each day. A 2024 WRAP Camp T-shirt will be provided for those registering for camp on or before June 21. Please indicate size when registering. Shirts cannot be guaranteed to be available after June 21. WRAP Grads is designed specifically for students finishing sixth or seventh grade: the WRAP Camp professionals! These students will participate in in-depth projects, presentations or activities in the morning, and will then assist the younger grades in the afternoon.

    Youth Enrichment

    Youth enrichment is one of the main components of Community Education. We offer after-school, evening and some weekend youth enrichment programs. These programs are open to all youth in the Chelsea School District, and also to youth who reside outside of the District boundaries.
