Our major team sport seasons include baseball/softball/tee ball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Additional camps and clinics are offered throughout the year. The group will meet after school twice each week to learn all about healthy habits that lead to happy kids. Through games and instruction during this seven-week course, kids will be introduced to running and other healthy activities that will help them stay on course to developing healthy eating, making healthy choices and enjoying healthy living. Beginning SpanishYouth EnrichmentIn this introductory class, students will learn a foundation of vocabulary for carrying on simple conversations and talking about the world around them. This will include greetings, the classroom, colors, numbers, weather, days of the week, and months. Topics may change depending on interests of the students in class as well. We will practice speaking, writing, and reading Spanish during classes as well as play games, read stories, sing songs and do related crafts! Space is limited in this class, so be sure to register early! This after-school program is available at South Meadows for grades 3-5. WaitlistNinara (flickr) (CC BY 2.0)Boating SafetyYouth EnrichmentRegistration will be completed through the MI DNR website here: https://michigan.storefront.kalkomey.com/em/events/6688 Whether your interest is in fishing, sailing, canoeing or water-skiing, boating education is essential. This eight-hour course is designed for those 12 years of age or older and covers topics including legal requirements, how to operate craft safely and environmental protection information. After studying the course material and taking an exam, students who pass will receive their official boater education certification. This certificate is required by law for many to operate personal watercraft and may even save you money on your insurance premiums. Anyone involved in boating activities is strongly encouraged to attend this class. Participants should bring a sack lunch, as this will be a full day class.Spring-Summer 2025

Cardio drumming is one of the newest and most energetic fitness trends out there! Denise has been leading a program for the Chelsea Senior Center, and now she is bringing it to Community Education as well! Never heard of Cardio Drumming? Come to class and check it out! This is a high-energy workout where participants will use drumsticks on buckets or balls along with music. Participants may stand or sit during the class, and this program is open to all ages and abilities. No equipment is needed to get started! Boys and girls will play together on these teams. Practices and games will be intermixed during this nine-week program. Most practices and games will take place on the Pierce Lake field at the corner of Freer Rd. and Old U.S. 12. Your registration fee will include the cost of your player’s team t-shirt and hat. All four-year-olds should plan to play tee ball, and if you are a five year old you may choose to play a second year of tee ball or register for coach pitch. If you are a five year old and this is your first experience, you should plan to play tee ball. Year is determined by how old player will be on August 31, 2025. We cannot run a successful program without the help of parent volunteers as coaches, and we will need a head coach for each team. If you are interested in being the head coach of a team, please call the Community Education office at (734) 433-2204, Ext. 4001 to complete registration. There will be a coaches meeting prior to the start of the season. Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children's motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach.
